A few weeks ago my photography students at showcase went to the Oakland Cemetery.  We brought a model with us dressed to match the scenery.  Here are some of those photos.  Rachel was the models name, and she knocked it out of the park for her first time modelling.  Her makeup was done by her friend Sarah Green, and wardrobe by me.

Showcase had 2 fieldtrips scheduled that day, so right after I brought my 102 students to the Southeastern Railroad Museum in Duluth, GA.  There’s amazing texture to be found there, and also so much time to be lost into the history and past of these old trains.

The cemetery and railway museum were super fun to shoot.  Something cool also is having the chance to shoot with a new makeup artist.  I would like to introduce Tiffany Kilgore, an amazing makeup artist and also beautiful lady herself.  I had her pose for a few portraits to try out her abilities, so have a look.

lastly this weekend I did my first maternity/couple shoot of the 2012.  An old model friend Elizabeth is about to burst in a few weeks, so we did a shoot while her baby belly was BIG.  Her and John were absolutely wonderful.

Well first come to first, I’m a instructor at the Showcase School of Photography now. I’m teaching my second session now and the students are absolutely awesome. It’s great to be in an environment were people want to learn. I also get feedback from several of my old students already who said how they loved me as a instructor. Muy beuno.

If you want to take your photography to a higher level via a structured yet very organize education process, I can recommend any other way than taking our courses.  I teach a Digital 101 and Digital 102 class that are opening up on the 7th for registration, hope to see one or 2 of you readers there.

It's Aisy bear and Me in early January

 If anyones been following my work, you would know photography hasn’t been happening much from me the last 4 months of 2011, or at least photography you’ve seen.  I did a bunch of corporate gigs, weddings, and so on but I tend to rarely share those on my blog.  This year I plan on changing that, as some soul searching made me realize that that’s what I want to focus on and advertise as a photographer.  You will see a lot of Wedding, Portraiture, and Corporate event post on the blog now, but also mixed with practical tips and tricks and a little bit of personality.  Ironically after that short preaching speech, now I’ll show you more of the portraits I’ve shot and some  corporate events.

It’s Aglae!  For those who don’t know Aglae and I have worked together for ages.  It seemed appropriate to jump into the new years taking photos without someone you not only know will give great photos, but also is just amazing too boot.

Zoe T. - Shot with a Canon 85 1.2L II

In this day also I shot with a new lady introduced by my friend Ian named Zoe.  She was pretty rocking also. We did both inside studio shooting, and outside location.  I have to give a heads up to Aperturent.com here who provided but a Canon 200 F2 IS and a Alienbee 800 kit with Lithium vagabond set for us to use.

On the other hand gigs have been coming up, and one of my most recent ones was an amazing wedding for fellow photographer and dear friend Felicia Atwell Mcfarland.  She was a drop dead gorgeous bride, and put that with a spectacular venue it pretty much made the photos super easy to take.  Here’s a few sample photos

Photographers focusing on portraits will no doubt have endless amount of faces in front of their camera. Every once in a while the photographer may stumble upon someone so amazing, so exciting, that person just models for them consistently and also motivates the photographer to perform at a high level. I’ve been lucky to have had several of those people in the form of Carli, Aglae, Elizabeth, and Maryn. Recently I’ve had the pleasure of working with someone who is fire balling herself to the top of my list, and her name is Lisa.

So makes Lisa so special? Well honestly her personality has been a major plus, but something that’s really been a key factor is her diversity and openness to just general shooting. In the span of almost 2 weeks Lisa and I have meet for the first time, and done over 6 shoots that have complete different feels and range. She has show amazing diversity in skills and ability in all our shoots.

One of my shoots from January 2011 - Meet Sedona

This is going to be a good year, I feel it.  It’s already started awesome.

As of 2011 I’ve been a photographer for over 7 years now.  It’s hard to believe that much time has passed.  This year it’s looking like a lot of photography opportunity will come up not just for me, but for those I care for around me like Tiffany, Ian, Thom, and Gustavo.

Its so cool I wanted to take time to recognize some of the cool things happening this year.

- School is going to be awesome.  The opportunity to get a great portfolio together is one thing, but also the team work is what I’m looking forward too.  We’ve already gotten some ideas to work together, and the best part is we are being paid to do what we love by doing gigs together.  That’s awesome!

Meet and Shoot at Studio TM - Awesome photography ops

- I started “Meet and Shoot” (http://www.flickr.com/groups/meetandshootatl/) at Thom’s Studio in December last year, and have pitched it this year.  It’s a photography meet up and model shoot that has already sold out it’s first three meetups.  The feedback has been awesome, and the results are great.  The best part is everyone is happy with the product.  It feels awesome to be a part of it.  In fact it’s so awesome that I brought in Tiffany, Ian, and Gustavo to help run it and experience it.

- I restarted personal photography tutoring, and have an amazing client named Dr. Smith.  He’s passionate about photography, but the best part about it is his embracing of the education and art behind it.  They say when you find a student you can end up learning a lot more, it feels that way with this tutoring.  Dr. Smith has made this year that much better because it has refreshed my enthusiasm for photography.

- A new years resolution of mine is to participate in 23 weddings this year, and I’ve already done 2.  I love weddings, and it’s a pleasure working them.  I second shoot for an amazing photographer named Jamie (Jamiehowell.net) and he’s already booked me for some shoots.  Working with Jamie at weddings is absolutely awesome because it’s like being part of a well oiled machine.  Along with that Thom has also asked me to second shoot for him some this year.  It will be awesome to meet that goal.  You get some amazingly fun stuff at weddings.

- It’s been a great year to shoot “New” models.  Starting in December (it feels like part of the new year) I’ve been shooting with great models such as Dawn, Jimmy, Misty, Sedona, Madison, Sarah Parks, and more.  The photos are fun, unique, and reinvigorate my love for photography.

- Lastly I’ve been second shooting for a local Atlanta photographer named Ninh.  He has introduced me to some amazing opportunities including celebrity events, and massive corporate events.  His process is amazing and outstanding, and I have so much I can learn from him.  Some of it is school of hard knocks, but it’s gonna be worth the price of admission.  I can only get better.  The cool thing is yes I’m experienced, but a sad fact is when you are experienced it doesn’t mean you are good at everything, it can mean simply you are good at doing that small thing you do.  Ninh critiques can be  harsh if you are more emotionally sensitive, but the fact of the matter is there’s a lot to learn from it.  I won’t let “7 years of shooting” blind me from learning, so this has been an amazing experience and opportunity.

A fellow photographer friend of mine named Mike (Bumpy) from the Atlanta Photographers guild introduced me to Sedona about a month and a half ago.  Sedona has an amazing look.  She’s stunningly pretty, but also had a great personality to match.  Other than a few snaps, I didn’t really work with her much that day.  Fast forward a few weeks and an opportunity came up where I needed a model and I gave Sedona a call.  Here’s a few sample images taken last night with Sedona as a model.  She rocked it.

Had a photoshoot with an old classmate today.  Madison is a pretty lady who shared a humanities class with me a few years ago.  She had striking features, amazing hair, and after a short discussion we exchanged information.  Now almost 2 years later, we finally got shoot and also abuse all this snow that’s on the ground in Georgia.  Check out some of the photos!

There was a record amount of snowfall last night in Georgia.  I haven’t personally seen it like this since 1993.  Our instructor at school Ms. Finch wanted us to take some snow photos for extra credit, so here some are.  It was a very pleasant walk around, a little chilly at the end.  The pictures were taken around where I live, couldn’t walk to far (at most half a mile) but fortunately we live a very picturesque area.
